Preface

Preface

This guide provides an introduction to structuring Frame documents for publication in both traditional hard copy and in a format viewable by PinPoint.

Processes that can be performed on either files or books include exporting, running mifmucker, running mkbook, validating, and viewing online.

All actions are performed on individual files--not book files--unless otherwise noted.

Organization

The main parts of this guide are:

Notational conventions

The following conventions are used (in addition to the regular notational conventions) throughout this document:

Associated documents

This section lists additional information resources recommended to writers who are structuring.

Peter Cash publications

The materials that Peter Cash used in a course on structuring with Builder are available in the directory icarus:/home/cash/work/training.

These Frame files contain information on SGML, exporting, structuring, and style sheets.

Newsgroups

Local newsgroups can be read using tin, trn, or any other newsreader.

The following Convex newsgroups may be helpful:

World Wide Web (WWW) pages

The Convex Press home page offers a wealth of information on using mifmucker and related items.

The URL is currently http://hawkwind/index.html; however, the URL will soon change to http://icarus/index.html.

The Mosaic web browser can be used on either hawkwind or icarus by typing

% Mosaic

Online man pages

In addition to the references listed, the online man pages provide useful information. The man program formats and displays the information contained in the man pages.

You can access the online man pages by entering

% man entryname

where

entryname
is the name of the man page to be displayed.
For instance, entering man mifmucker on icarus brings up the man page for mifmucker.
