Process

Converting figures

Due to the slow response time of vector graphics online, you must take bitmap snapshots of the vector graphics for use with PinPoint.

Convert the figures after you have validated an individual file, or all at once after you have validated the book file. By using a validly structured file, you can see in the structure view where you need to place the bitmap graphic (see Figure 7).

Keep the original vector graphics for editing purposes and for hard copy prints. Use conditional text to maintain the two sets of graphics (see the FrameBuilder documentation for information on using conditional text).

The following procedure outlines the process:

  1. Make the vector graphics conditional.
  2. For each graphic,
    1. Take a bitmap snapshot.
    2. Place your cursor between the <Graphic> and <Frame> elements in the structure view.
    3. Import--by copying, not referencing--the bitmap file.
    4. Wrap the bitmap in a <Frame> element.
    5. Make the new <Frame> element (and consequently its contents) conditional.

This method maintains cross-references in PinPoint. That is, a cross-reference to the vector graphic flawlessly leads a PinPoint user to the bitmap used online.

In the vector graphics, maintain enough space between the anchored frame's rectangle and the graphic's rectangle (the graphic created by Frame's graphic tools) to facilitate taking snapshots that include the graphic's rectangle.
