Tips and other flashes of inspiration

Ldefs

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

Ldef lists can be wrapped using <LabeledList> elements. Terms are wrapped in <LabeledListLabel> elements, and definitions are wrapped in <LabeledListText> elements.

Nested Ldefs can be wrapped using nested <LabeledList> elements.

Markers

Markers (index tags, cross-references) are inserted in a structured document by inserting elements (<IndexToken>, <CrossReference>) from the element catalog.

After inserting these elements, you are prompted to set up the markers.

Monospace text online

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

In order for text to appear in a monospace font online, it must be wrapped in one of the following elements:

Use the <Voice...> tags mainly for stuff smaller than a paragraph that has to be monospace. Use <ExampleBlockVerbatim> for whole paragraph stuff like code examples.

*Do not place any elements inside <ExampleBlockVerbatim> elements.

See the "Code examples" section for more information on using <ExampleBlockVerbatim> and related elements.

Repeated structure generation

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

A structured file cannot be restructured. That is, if you have a structured document in which particular items did not get wrapped the first time, then changing your SRT and regenerating structure for the structured document will not wrap those items.

If you really want to begin again, save the file, then open it in FrameMaker. Maker will not maintain the structure, so you lose the structure but save any textual edits you have made since structuring. You can then restructure the document.

Searching

After putting a book file in PinPoint, you can search your entire book for a string--in a single step. PinPoint will tell you the locations of the string. You can then go to the corresponding Frame files and edit them as needed.
