The structure rule table (SRT)

The structure rule table (SRT) is a table that the structure generator uses to determine the elements in which Frame`s character and paragraph tags are wrapped.

Frame uses an Extended Document Definition (EDD) to define structure. The EDD determines the names and contents of elements that can occur in a structured document. The SRT is designed to follow the rules given in the EDD. See Peter's course notes for more information. The course notes are Frame files and are located in icarus:/home/cash/work/training.

This table shows some rows from the master struct.rule.table. Note that the percent sign (%) is a wildcard character--matching zero or more characters in a name.

The first column lists tags from the Frame templates. The second column lists names of elements in which to wrap the objects given in the first column. The third column is for temporary labels. These optional labels can be used in the table to define more complex objects in column 1. The fourth column is for comments regarding what that particular row of entries is intended to accomplish.

For information on changing the SRT, consult the Using FrameBuilder manual (contact Peter Cash in the event you do not have a manual).

Note

If you make a typo while customizing your structure rule table, the structure generator could become "confused" when it attempts to structure the unknown entity. This confusion may lead the structure generator to make a mess of the structure from that point onward. The structure generator is case sensitive.
