Tips and other flashes of inspiration

Special characters and HPTAG

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

Some characters may not export properly without coaxing. For example, the lbs symbol may not make it over.

The frequency of this event does not warrant your scrutinizing your documents. Be aware of it though.

If you have a case where a symbol is not being exported, contact Peter and provide him a copy of the example.

The following procedure gives you a copy of the character symbol that will export:

Assume the symbol to export is char:

  1. On icarus, open the Builder Help menu.
  2. Go to the HPTag help item.
  3. Select Special Characters which appears in the right portion of the help window (you will have to scroll to it). This will show you a list of special characters allegedly supported by HPTAG.
  4. Find the char character. Hold down SHIFT-CONTROL and highlight the char character in the help text by clicking on it with the left mouse button.
  5. Copy it.
  6. Paste it into your document in place of the char character that is already there.
In order to see the symbol, you must highlight it, then select in the Character Designer window the Symbol Family (by means of the Family: button) followed by Apply.

StepNum lists

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

Lists tagged StepNum must be wrapped in <ListOrder> elements to maintain the StepNum structures online.

Structure rule table

The structure rule table (SRT) is not guaranteed to cover every possible situation--you may have to add rows to your table to properly handle your books.

Be sure to document your additions to the table so that you can easily find them and then add them to the next version of the SRT.

Style sheets

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

The appearance of online documents is governed by our style sheets. For example, the vertical spacing before a <Para> element is determined in the style sheets.

Contact the WO team (through the mail alias pinstyle) with concerns regarding the appearance of online documents.

Subscripts and Superscripts

Date of last verification: June 20, 1995

The master structure rule table does not process strings tagged with the Subscript or Superscript character tags. If your documents contain these tags, add the lines in the table below to your copy of the structure rule table. Your SRT will then handle Frame's Subscript and Superscript character tags.
